Where the clothes come from
Everything is cut and sewn at a single unit in Faridabad, Haryana. Forty people work there, most of them women, on permanent contracts rather than piece rates.
The fabric
Cotton and cotton-silk from mills in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, block printing in Rajasthan. Every metre is washed and dried before it is cut, which costs us about nine percent more and two extra days.
Small batches
We cut sixty to a hundred and twenty pieces of a style at a time. It means things sell out, and it also means we are not burning unsold stock at the end of a season.
What we are still working on
Our packaging is recycled but not yet plastic-free — the outer courier bag is the last piece we have not solved. We would rather say that than round it up.
